K2 Athena
Complete, Electronic and Personal Health Record System (EHR/ePHR), providing contemporaneous capture of data, throughout the entire pregnancy pathway.
What is K2 Athena?
An Ecosystem for Maternity Services
Designed in collaboration with Clinicians, Athena is a maternity management information system (MIS) supporting maternity services to digitise the maternity journey.
Covering the entire pregnancy journey, Athena provides decision support tools, supports local and national guidelines, offers a comprehensive suite of reports and tools, and facilitates clinicians, health care professionals and women & pregnant people from beginning to the end of the journey.
Complete Contemporaneous Journey
Data is captured once, and once only; contemporaneously at the point of care during the patient interaction, even in emergency situations. This could be in clinics, community, wards or even remotely from taking phone calls. It can then be used many times to support care and planning of care with multi-disciplinary teams. No Duplication, no need for multiple systems, no more struggling to find the information needed.
The complete journey of a pregnancy can be documented digitally including (but not limited to):
Self-referral
Risk assessments at every contact
Fetal Growth Monitoring
Individualised care pathways
Triage incl. BSOTS
Full and complete intrapartum care and documentation with K2 INFANT-Guardian (link to page)
Complete Antenatal and Postnatal pathways
Fully Integrated
Athena integrates with a variety of systems including NHS Digital and local services; interfacing allows interoperability with all key hospital systems, such as; PAS, PDS (Birth notification service), Radiology, Pathology, Neonatology, EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) GROW 2.0 and more.
What value does Athena provide?
Decision Support
Built into all areas of the ecosystem are decision support tools. At every contact risk is assessed and pathways set accordingly. There are several tools at your disposal whether it is localised or national MEWS, NEWTT2, Growth charts, CTG guidance, Anaesthetic assessments and a variety of risk assessments .
Local and National Guidelines and standards
Up to date with current national standards and guidelines such as Saving Babies Lives v3 (SBLv3), all Ockenden recommendations, DCB3066 – the maternity record standard, the digital capabilities framework (DCF) plus more including local guidelines in use in the LMNS or ICS/ICB.
Offline Use
Athena has a full offline function which allows users to take entire complete records offline for use in community settings where reliable connectivity can be an issue and will be automatically synchronised when brought back online. Records remain fully available to all other users should they need access to it.
Comprehensive reporting and Auditing
Reporting is made simple with Athena, all national mandated reporting is built into the reporting tools as standard. Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS) can be generated and validated prior to submission with the click of a button in as little as 15 minutes.
A full audit of each and every interaction is available for each record ensuring accurate data is always captured with timestamps.

What makes us different?
Pregnancy focussed
We understand that pregnancy is a specialist service within a health organisation and standard enterprise EPRs are not fit for use in maternity without significant investment and hundreds of hours of work from the organisation. We ensure that our solution is always up to date with the latest maternity guidelines and make sure the solution works for maternity from day one, removing stress and burdens from the team allowing them to focus on delivering the safest possible maternity solution.
Specialist Integration Team
At K2 we have a specialist team who handle all the integration work. This means we are able to integrate and be interoperable with more systems than many other suppliers. The team is on hand to help scope, build, test and deploy bespoke integrations to a vast array of third-party systems using HL7 and FHIR.
Dedicated and user-friendly reporting.
Front end reporting tools allow users to build individual or shared reports for every field that is captured in the system. The tools are easy to use, intuitive as they use the same familiar UI as the rest of the solution, and they only need to be built once but can be used many times after.
Knowledgeable in-house expertise
Athena is backed and implemented by a wide variety of in-house experts. Dedicated project management, solution architects, infrastructure specialists, training teams, process mapping consultancy, data migration specialists and many more. Book a call to discuss what’s possible
